What the MyHeritage Photo Enhancer costs
MyHeritage offers the enhancer as a freemium feature. New users can enhance a small number of photos for free, and unlimited use needs a paid plan. The help center describes a Photo subscription that bundles the scanner, enhancer, colorizer, animation, photo repair and storage, and it applies to one family site. The Omni Plan includes all of those photo features, and the Complete Plan includes them except the scanner.
MyHeritage does not print a Photo subscription price in its help articles, so check the plans page before you buy. The related Reimagine app is documented in the help center at $49.99 a year or $7.99 a month, with a 7 day trial on the yearly plan only.
Where people outgrow it
The enhancer is built for family history, not for production work. Three things push buyers elsewhere.
- Output size. It is designed for viewing on screen and sharing. If you need a file for a large print, you want control of the pixel size and DPI of the export.
- Volume. A shoebox of 400 prints, or a restoration business with client files, needs batches and a ZIP download, not one photo at a time.
- Licensing. A family plan is for personal use. If you restore photos for paying customers, sell prints or put the result in a memorial product, you want a commercial license in writing.
If none of those apply, and you want the colorized, animated family photo experience with a tree attached, stay with MyHeritage.

MyHeritage wins on colorizing, animation and genealogy. UnblurPicture wins when the job is a larger, sharper file you will print, sell or deliver to a client. The two are not exclusive. Plenty of people colorize in one and upscale in the other.
Who should switch and who should not
Switch if you restore photos for clients, run a print or frame shop, sell memorial or heirloom products, or have hundreds of scans to process. A photographer with a pile of client prints saves hours with batches. A frame shop that needs 300 DPI at 16x20 gets the pixel count it needs from the increase DPI of image tool.
Stay put if you want one subscription for family history, records and photos, and your goal is to look at the pictures on screen.
For damaged originals with tears and fading, the photo restoration software page compares the options, and the restore old photos page walks through what we fix.
Try your worst photo in four steps
- Scan the print at 600 DPI or photograph it flat in daylight.
- Upload it and pick the Old print preset, then 2x or 4x.
- Compare before and after with the zoom loupe at 100 percent.
- Download the PNG, JPG or TIFF and check the size against your print order.
You get one preview before paying. Test the photo that failed elsewhere, since easy photos look good in every tool.
What no enhancer fixes
An enhancer rebuilds detail it can infer. It cannot recover a face that is a few pixels wide, and faces on very small group photos can come out too smooth. Large tears, missing corners and heavy stains need manual retouching. If a photo matters to a client, show them the preview before you promise a result. And when a photo is a family keepsake, a related tool like gallerists.com can help catalog inherited paintings and frames that sit next to the albums.
MyHeritage Photo Enhancer questions
Is the MyHeritage Photo Enhancer free?
Only partly. MyHeritage lets new users enhance a limited number of photos for free. After that you need a paid plan such as the Photo subscription, Complete or Omni. Check the plans page for the current price, since it is not listed in the help center.
How much does MyHeritage Reimagine cost?
The MyHeritage help center lists Reimagine at $49.99 a year, with a 7 day free trial, or $7.99 a month with no trial. Both give unlimited use of its photo features. Complete subscribers get unlimited enhancing, while scanning full album pages still needs a Reimagine subscription.
What is a good alternative to the MyHeritage Photo Enhancer?
UnblurPicture is a good fit if you want larger, sharper files without a genealogy subscription. It upscales 2x or 4x, writes 300 DPI, exports PNG, JPG or TIFF and processes batches. MyHeritage remains better for colorizing, animation and family trees.
Can I use MyHeritage enhanced photos commercially?
Plans on the MyHeritage site are aimed at family use, so read their terms before using results in a paid product. UnblurPicture Pro and Studio include a commercial license for the files you export, so you can deliver restored photos to clients.
Does UnblurPicture colorize old photos?
No. It sharpens, cleans and enlarges. If you want a black and white photo colorized, MyHeritage In Color does that, and many people run the colorized file through UnblurPicture afterwards to get a print size file.
Check your own old photo before you pay for anything
Upload one print, compare the before and after and choose a plan only if it looks right.
